We had a major challenge coming into work with iCode. Their site was dated and had issues that caused content cannibalization along with a typical WordPress setup that was overburdened with plugins and customization to make it fit a mold that iCode needed. We quickly worked with iCode’s team to develop a high end and extremely functional website that allowed users to browse the website and convert through enrollment CTAs on the website.
Make it new again
We had to upgrade the website. We opted for keeping the platform on WordPress for the sake of future scalability but backed out many of the plug-ins that were cluttering the site, causing slow down and security issues and were causing content issues.
We made it extremely mobile friendly, ensuring each page was touched to give great functionality to the mobile users on the site.
The new website for iCode was completed in 45 days and is currently one of our favorite to date. We use it every chance we can when someone asks “What style website do you recommend for us?”
Speed it up
Before the new site, load times were hovering at the 6-7s range. We feel that site speed is one of the #1 SEO tactics and this was no different. We worked on optimizing the site through various techniques, such as, gZip, caching, minification of HTML, CSS & JS, and combining CSS & JS files.
We dropped the load time to under 3s for all pages on average with many pages loading under 2s. This we feel is a large portion of the growth we felt in the early part of Q1.
Give users a reason to come to the site
We started blogging on the site to target awareness stage users looking for answers to problems they’re having with their children, such as, independent thinking skills and more. This was then shared through email, social and various online/offline channels to drive traffic to the website.
This gave us the opportunity to increase our reach through remarketing, audiences and more.
Get the name out there
We focused hard on getting the word out there that iCode is now in the neighborhood. Through highly effective link building, we were able to drive referral business along with increase ranking for iCode. Using press, local directories, and specific tools/tactics we’ve been using for 16 years, we were able to generate great links that have value for years to come.
We then moved over to Google Local for each location and went to work improving the profiles, gathering citations for the locations and marking up the site with local schema to ensure that the site could be found.
